Artiste engagée, Almagul Menlibayeva est aujourd’hui l’une des artistes contemporaines kazakhes les plus renommées dans son pays comme à l’international.

Elle s'interroge sur la situation contemporaine de l'Asie Centrale et dénonce les dégâts culturels et écologiques occasionnés par l'ancienne colonisation de l'URSS. Entre l'assèchement de la mer d'Aral et les expériences nucléaires, le pays est resté meurtri. 

Amalgul convoque dans des vidéos chamanistes les esprits de la nature, le dieu du Ciel Tengri, qui couvre et protège les steppes de la Mongolie pour l'éternité. Elle tente ainsi, grâce à une mythologie panthéiste, de restaurer la culture ancestrale de son pays.

Almagul Menlibayeva est une artiste, photographe, performer et vidéaste kazakhe qui vit et travaille entre Almaty et Berlin.
